Nashville, TN, April 4, 2023 - The Phoenix Club of Nashville partnered with SwitchPoint Ventures to provide a $21,600 grant to Small World Yoga, a nonprofit that offers free trauma-informed yoga and meditation programming for historically underserved populations in Middle Tennessee. The grant funding will be used to establish programming in 20 new Metro Nashville public schools, making this valuable offering available to additional at-risk youth.
“We are thrilled about this new partnership with The Phoenix Club and grateful PCON members see the impact and value of Small World Yoga’s work with youth in the Nashville community. This grant will allow for some exciting new collaborations and growth,” said Liz Veyhl, executive director of Small World Yoga.
Small World Yoga’s mission is to connect people and create community by increasing access to yoga for underserved youth in the Nashville area. SWY was founded in 2014 by Executive Director Liz Veyhl, a Nashville native, who fell in love with yoga for both the physical and emotional benefits and began pursuing teacher training over a decade ago. Veyhl is a certified Baptise Power Vinyasa yoga instructor and an ambassador for the Africa Yoga Project.
The funds will also support the purchase of new yoga mats, teacher honorariums, and volunteer recruitment and retention. This support will help Small World Yoga serve an additional 1,200 youth this school year and host 160 monthly classes, with roughly 15-20 students per class.
“It’s so exciting to see two great organizations that I am passionate about come together to serve more young people. As someone who has experienced the power of yoga on well-being, I am glad more people will get the chance to experience it because of this partnership,” said Reggie D. Ford, PCON legacy member and SWY board member.
