Nashville, Tenn., January 13, 2022 – The East Nashville Hope Exchange (ENHE) will acquire 75 tablet computers for use in afterschool and summer programs through a partnership grant made possible by the Phoenix Club of Nashville (PCON) and S3 Recycling Solutions (S3RS). The tablets will help strengthen literacy rates of at-risk children in East Nashville by closing the educational achievement gap through the power of technology.
“It takes an entire community to champion positive change. This partnership with PCON and S3 is the perfect example of leaders coming together to make a real difference in the community,” said Ameshica Linsey, executive director of the East Nashville Hope Exchange. “Low literacy levels are detrimental not just to the citizens who will most likely struggle to find employment, but to the economy overall. We know that access to technology is not the final solution to the literacy epidemic, but when it’s used creatively and effectively, student outcomes are unbelievable! This partnership will unlock the door for many of our students and greatly enhance our programs and the process of learning to read.”

This tablet purchase will fill the gap that ENHE has been experiencing by allowing each of its students to have daily access to her own tablet, which will result in more efficient and consistent reading application access for each of the 100 students in ENHE’s after school program.

This grant is Phoenix Club’s second partnership with East Nashville Hope Exchange. In 2019, PCON invested in ENHE’s summer reading program, which has successfully helped 100 students per year maintain or improve their end-of-school year literacy skills in a focused effort to overcome the summer slump.
